The Philippines celebrates with the rest of the global society in observing the International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies 2015 (IYL2015). Sponsored by major international optical societies and endorsed by UNESCO, IYL2015 was adopted by the UN General Assembly during its 68th session on 20 December 2013 (light2015.org).

IYL 2015 aims “to highlight to all global citizens, the importance of light and optical technologies in their lives and futures, and for the development of society.” Thus, the National Institute of Physics (NIP) in the University of the Philippines Diliman will hold a symposium entitled “IlumiNASYON: International Year of Light 2015” on 09 March 2015 at the NIP Auditorium (Intel Center for Science Innovation).
