The diagnostic exam for incoming first year MS/PhD students will be given on
Thursday 21 July 2016
- 9 am to 12 noon — written exam / Room F210
- afternoon — panel interview
The diagnostic exam covers topics discussed in senior level and junior level undergraduate physics courses ( quantum physics, modern physics, electromagnetism, statistical phyics and classical mechanics) and mathematical methods in Physics. The level of sophistication for these topics are comparable to the questions in the NIP recommended textbooks for these courses. A copy of last year’s diagnostic exam will be made accessible here.
The diagnostic exam is meant to assess the preparedness of the students for graduate level physics courses and to help the student if there are deficiencies. The student’s performance in the exam will be used in determining the program of studies of the student.
