NIP, UP Diliman — The National Institute of Physics (NIP) held a recognition program last June 26, 2015 at the NIP Auditorium (Intel Center for Science Innovation 1), in UP Diliman. Leading to the College of Science Recognition Program and the University Graduation Ceremony, the NIP Recognition Program is considered to be the most intimate as each of the candidates were honored for the successful completion of their courses.
The NIP Graduating Class of 2015 is comprised of 7 Doctoral (PhD Physics), 21 Masteral (MS Physics and MA Physics), and 37 Bachelors of Science (BS Applied Physics and BS Physics) graduates. Special awards were also given to outstanding graduates and best theses.
During this special event, NIP acknowledged the parents and guardians of the graduates for their efforts, advice and patience, particularly, during the years their children spent at the NIP. The parents and guardians provided the crucial support as the NIP students hurdled their rigorous academic subjects and the research thesis requirements.
The students’ mentors were also recognized by the NIP for their efforts and contributions in the research training of the graduates. At NIP, scientific mentorship is developed between the student researchers and the supervisors during their stints at one of the six research groups of the NIP.
The guest speaker for the event was Dr. Christopher C. Bernido, President of the Central Visayan Institute Foundation. Dr. Bernido was the director of NIP when it was first established in 1983. Dr. Bernido, in his message, lauded the Graduating Class and the NIP Community for their accomplishments. He energized the whole audience with a challenge that each must pursue a big idea, the kinds of research problems that were never investigated before.
As a first time, the NIP Recognition Program included the Sablay ceremony. The UP Sablay is considered to symbolize the Iskolar ng Bayan’s well-rounded UP education, lifelong pursuit for knowledge and the responsibility of the graduates to serve the country.
