Associate Professor Nathaniel Hermosa II, PhD gives honors to the National Institute of Physics as he receives the TWAS Prize for 2017 in the field of Physics during the Lectures and Awarding Ceremonies hosted by the National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST Phl). During the event at the Luxent Hotel, Timog Ave., Diliman, Quezon City last 12 October 2017, Dr. Hermosa delivered a lecture entitled “Seeing Things in a New Light”. He focused on his scientific work on manipulating light producing a new kind of light that has increased amount of information for the same intensity.

The TWAS Prize is an award given to an outstanding young Filipino scientist by the Academy (NAST) and the Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS). This is to encourage scientists to do their best work while winning global recognition. The citation in the plaque received reads:
“In recognition of his significant contributions to the understanding of fundamental properties of light and light-matter interactions and the development of novel techniques based on light that significantly advanced the state of knowledge of this field in the country. He has written several publications on light’s orbital angular momentum, specifically on its effect on the beam’s reflection, on the use of these beams for free space communication, and on detecting seemingly inaccessible information.”
NIP congratulates Dr. Hermosa for the achievement and may his works inspire others in the Institute and the Country to be best in their chosen fields.
