Jayson G. Cosme

Associate Professor

Associate Professor

Dr Jayson Cosme is an Associate Professor of the National Institute of Physics (NIP) at the University of the Philippines (UP).  He is currently the Program Coordinator of the Theoretical Physics Group and the principal investigator of the Theory of Quantum Fluids subgroup.

Dr Cosme obtained his BSc and MSc in Physics (2007-2013) at the University of the Philippines – Diliman. He obtained a PhD in Physics (2014-2017) under the supervision of Prof Joachim Brand at Massey University, New Zealand. He then moved to the University of Hamburg, Germany (2017-2020) as a postdoctoral scientist in the group of Prof Ludwig Mathey. His expertise is in the theory of condensed matter with a special focus on out-of-equilibrium phenomena, such as the dynamical control and emergence of dynamical phases.

Dr Cosme returned to NIP as an Associate Professor and a UP Balik-PhD awardee in 2020. There, he established the Theory of Quantum Fluids research group, and their research focuses on discovering and understanding novel dynamical behaviour in various condensed matter systems, such as cold atoms and superconductors. In 2023, he was awarded the first prize in the National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines Talent Search for Young Scientists for his work on time crystals published in the journal “Science”.
