Dr. Giovanni A. Tapang is a Professor at the National Institute of Physics (NIP) at the University of the Philippines. He is also the Principal Investigator of the Sync. Bio. Optics Group at the Instrumentation Physics Laboratory. He obtained his PhD from the University of the Philippines Diliman.

Dr. Tapang’s research interests include synchronization, biology and optics. He has received several awards and honors, including being a finalist for the Most Outstanding R&D Award (Emerging Technology) and winning the Commission on Higher Education CHED REPUBLICA Award.

He has led several research projects, including VISSER::REFRESH, FIND MiDAS, CATFish, GAMMA, STAMP, and others. His research has focused on topics such as instrumentation, signal processing, and optics.

Dr. Tapang has held several professional appointments, including Dean of the College of Science at the University of the Philippines Diliman, President of the Philippine Physics Society, Associate Dean for Student and Public Affairs at the College of Science, and Research Visitor at the University of Strathclyde in Scotland. He has also served as an editor for several publications.
